(VIDEO) Florida Citizen Cleared of Charges After Killing Cop’s Assailant

March 15, 2017 – Lee County, FL: A Florida Citizen, Ashad Russell, has been cleared of all charges after shooting and killing a man who was attacking a Florida deputy. A judge ruled that the¬†shooting was justified because the deputy’s life was clearly in danger.

Deputy Dean Bardes had been assisting with a crash on I-75 when he was almost hit by a speeding car. Believing the near-miss to be intentional, Deputy Bardes pursued the suspect, 53-year-old Edward Strother, in his cruiser.

After stopping, Strother “charged” the deputy and tackled him to the ground, where Deputy Bardes struggled to maintain control of his firearm.

The State Attorney’s office released a cellphone video of Russell shooting the deputy’s assailant Wednesday; in the video you see Deputy Dean Bardes pinned to the ground by his attacker, Edward Strother. Russell, who has a concealed firearms permit, is seen walking up to the scene of the altercation. According to eyewitnesses, Russell approached and told the suspect to stop beating the deputy. Bardes yelled at Russell to shoot his attacker.

Russell shot Strother three times, ending the attack. Strother was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.
