Windham Weaponry, the Maine-based manufacturer of some of the finest production AR-15s on the market, has just, according to their monthly newsletter, introduced a New York state compliant AR-15. New York, thanks to legislation, has heavily restricted certain features of the AR platform if the rifle is to land within its borders.
The most immediately noticeable change is the addition of the unique Thorsden Stock, designed to be NY- and CA- compliant by eliminating the two-piece separate pistol grip and buttstock. The buffer tube is left as a receiver extension/cheek piece. Other NY-specific features to note are the lack of bayonet lug, 10-round magazine, and the flash hider at the muzzle has been replaced with a “competition crown”
While I’m sure that most of us around the country are gawking at this odd-looking AR-15 platform rifle, I’m also sure that many people who live in New York state are thankful to have a quality manufacturer producing work-arounds so that NY residents can legally have an excellent AR platform rifle for hunting and defense.

I have personally toured the Windham Weaponry plant, and can tell you that the quality control and quality of product is outstanding, and the men and women working there are fiercely proud of the product they offer the American people. Kudos to Windham Weaponry for actively helping the citizens of a state where other manufacturers threw their hands up and left.
